In 2023, solar electricity generation experienced the largest increase, amounting to 307 terawatt-hours. Wind power followed with an increase of 206 terawatt-hours. By comparison, hydropower suffered decreased by 88 terawatt-hours. European Union electricity production moved away from coal sources and moved towards wind and solar energy, the former having had an increase of 135 terawatt-hours that year.
