According to a survey conducted in South Korea, around 48 percent of pop culture artists in 2022 were recruited when they auditioned for the company they ended up signing with. A significant portion of artists were taken on through connections they had in the industry, at about 37 percent. With the success of "Produce 101" in 2016, talent competition/survival shows have increased in popularity in South Korea, especially in the music industry. While this has caused a slight increase in artists being recruited that way, most people who feature on these shows are already signed with companies.
