As of end of 2022, the technology sector was by far the largest purchaser of clean energy across the United States. The industry accounted for almost half of the corporate contracted capacity as of that date. Energy and telecommunications followed with shares of nine and eight percent, respectively. Amazon was the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy with some 12.4 gigawatts of contracted capacity.
