A 2022 study auditing 200 direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands with a strong online presence showed that 77 percent of the brands were headquartered in North America. Europe followed with 13 percent, while Asian countries were home to 6.5 percent of the digital native D2C brands.

The source selected 200 brands with the following characteristics:
-consumer brand.
-digital-first.
-strong focus on own sale channel rather than other marketplaces or distributors.
The study excluded media and software companies, retailers and distributors, and food subscription services, traditional brands mainly selling offline.
Brands were additionally ranked based on web traffic (60%) and social media (40%).
