In a 2021 conducted survey among Australian shoppers, the top place consumers began their product search with the intent of researching or buying was a search engine. More than half of respondents used a search engine to research products and around 37 percent of those surveyed started their buying journey on a search engine. Around 35 percent of respondents started their product purchasing process on a marketplace or retailer site, with around a quarter of those surveyed beginning their product research on marketplaces or non-direct brand sites.
