As of the end of March 2023, index funds accounted for 87.4 percent of investments made in tsumitate NISA accounts in Japan. The total value of investments made through tsumitate NISA accounts since 2018 amounted to 3.24 trillion Japanese yen. NISA was first introduced in 2014 and offers tax exemptions on investments as an incentive for individuals to increase their savings through investments.
