Approximately 80 percent of the European demand for refined lithium for battery cell production is projected to be met by local suppliers by 2030. Over 50 percent of this region's demand for mined lithium will be likely supplied unless local communities oppose its extraction. In comparison, less than 25 percent of cobalt and nickel demand will be met in Europe. Insufficient raw materials supply is one of the factors putting battery production projects at risk in this continent.
