In 2022, oats and oatmeal were a major trend food in Japan as consumers discovered a variety of uses of the cereal grain. As revealed in a survey conducted in April 2022, half of respondents have heard about oats or oatmeal, with another 14 percent stating to have actively purchased the food product. Locally produced and consumed produce showed the highest purchase rate among the trend foods with 23 percent of respondents.
