According to a survey conducted in 2022, in all the countries surveyed in North Africa, women were noticeably more inclined than men to say that violence against women increased in the past year. The gaps were particularly significant in Tunisia and Sudan, with percentage differences of 17 points and 16 points, respectively. Additionally, in most cases, men were more likely than women to indicate that violence had decreased over the last year. According to the source, the discrepancy in perceptions of violence against women may have implications. As outlined by gendered perceptions of political leadership, most governmental decisions are made by men. If men downplay the significance or prevalence of violence against women in the community, it is less likely that the issue will be dealt with appropriately.
