Between 2021 and 2022, Libya was the country in North Africa with the highest share of people who believed that women and men should be separate when working, as almost 50 percent of Libyans held this view. According to the survey source, when requested to offer reasons for why men and women ought to be segregated at the workplace, the most cited justifications were concerns regarding harassment and religious beliefs. Additionally, it was often argued that co-ed workplaces may lead to distractions. These rationales were typically followed by the assertion that men and women should be kept apart in the workplace.
