Retail websites were the most frequently used channels to purchase apparel and footwear through in the U.S. in 2022, with 65 percent of respondents reporting that they most frequently make their online purchases there. Brand websites ranked second with 57 percent of shoppers reporting the same thing, while 55 percent most frequently purchased clothing and shoes on Amazon.
Spending habits
Apparel and footwear are extremely popular segments for consumers to engage in e-commerce with. On average, U. S. online shoppers with higher household incomes spent the most on fashion online, with nearly half spending more than 2,000 U.S. dollars each year. Overall, it was estimated that the average annual spend on apparel products reached nearly 1,400 U.S. dollars; for footwear, the figure was slightly lower at over 700 dollars.
The importance of ratings and reviews
As for what types of fashion online shoppers in the States were buying, casual seemed to be the most popular. A total of 96 percent of respondents to a survey reported purchasing casual clothing and footwear online. Athleticwear ranked second at 84 percent. Regardless of the type, purchase decisions for most online shoppers were made with the help of ratings and reviews. Almost six in ten online shoppers always read product reviews while shopping for footwear online. Globally, nearly three in ten consumers use reviews to help with online fashion purchase decisions, highlighting significance when it comes to online reviews in e-commerce.
