The number of new business openings fluctuated throughout the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic began in March 2020, between 134,000 and 151,000 new business were opening each quarter in the United States. In the first quarter of 2020, this number dropped to just over 105,000 new businesses. 2022 saw the number of new business openings reach record highs.
