According to a survey conducted in 2021, 33 percent of respondents from Northeastern Italy preferred to drink tap water out of concern for the environment, while 26.7 percent from the Northwest did so because they believed that water from municipal aqueducts was more controlled than water from bottled water producers. Another 33 percent of respondents from Central Italy drank tap water because of its convenience, while 24.9 percent of those from the South drank it because of its lower cost.
