In 2023, around 10 percent of people in Germany took sick leave due to mental health problems. This was an increase compared to the year before, which saw the highest figure was since 1997. On average, there were more instances of women taking time off work due to mental health problems than men in 2023, and this continues a trend that has been around for the past years.
