Features that reduce energy consumption, the presence of green building certification, and that of on-site renewable energy certification were the environmental building features with the highest general impact on real estate transactions in 2022. Additionally, on-site renewable energy certification and use of sustainably sourced building materials were the most popular environmental features that customers were willing to pay a premium for. About 18 percent of the commercial real estate professionals surveyed said that they would reject a transaction if the building lacked features that reduced energy consumption.
