In 2021, 301 tankers were scrapped worldwide, a dramatic increase compared with the previous year when 88 tankers were dismantled. The container ship segment, on the other hand, recorded only 11 scrapings in 2021, compared to 83 scrapings in 2020. This drop in the number of container ships dismantled globally was due to the historically high container freight rates in 2021.
