Weekly consumer searches for "QR Code" topic on Google in Brazil 2018-2023

Google search behavior on the topic of QR codes in Brazil peaked in early 2023 and was almost at the same level during the peak of the summer of 2020. This is a consequence of several Brazilian initiatives since 2020 to help the financial and commerce sectors. Most famously, the instant payments scheme Pix involves the use of QR codes to function after the Central Bank of Brazil launched a national standard QR code in early 2020. That said, domestic transaction figures for QR payments are difficult to find. Most figures on the topic come from consumer surveys, and focus on the share of respondents who used such a payment method or not. Real-time payments using Pix in Brazil were 110 percent higher in 2022 than during the same period one year prior.
