Weekly consumer searches for "QR Code" topic on Google in the U.S. 2018-2023

United States Google search behavior on the topic of QR codes peaked in March 2020, although interest in the topic remained high until early 2023. Interest in the technology increased rapidly in 2020 due to health and safety concerns raised in the coronavirus pandemic. The Google search volume for the United States revealed an upward trend since, which some may interpret as promising in terms of technology usage and general adoption. QR codes have different utilities, but this context mainly concerns contactless (tap to pay) payments with smartphones or wearable devices. Domestic transaction figures for QR payments are, however, difficult to find. Most figures on the topic come from consumer surveys and focus on the share of respondents who used such a payment method or not.
