In the fiscal year 2022, Japan issued government bonds (JGBs) worth 212.3 trillion Japanese yen. Refunding bonds accounted for the largest share of government bonds issued, at 147.7 trillion Japanese yen. According to the initial budget for the fiscal year 2024, Japan planned to issue 181.9 trillion yen worth of bonds, including 0.7 trillion yen in green transformation bonds and 0.2 trillion yen in children special bonds.
