UK air travel behavior related to the cost of flying 2022

A quarter of respondents to the UK's aviation consumer survey in 2022 indicated that they would reduce the number of flights they take, if the cost of flying increased by ten percent compared to the previous year. Around a fifth of consumers indicated that they will not fly at all due to increasing living costs.

  • 'If the price of my flights were more than 10% higher than last year, I would reduce how much I fly'
  • 'I plan to fly over the next 12 months, but less often than I would like because of rises in my living costs'
  • 'I plan to take no flights over the next 12 months because of rises in my living costs'
  • 'I plan to use ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ schemes (e.g., Klarna, ClearPay) to pay for flights'
  • 'I plan to take out credit or loans to pay for flights'
  • 'Don't know'
  • 'None of these'
The survey includes 3,000 online interviews and 500 phone interviews.
