According to a survey conducted in Japan during December 2022, more than 27 percent of those respondents who had not yet experienced event-type virtual shops expressed an interest in using them. The share was slightly higher than in the case of other types of virtual shops. Virtual shops are places in virtual environments that allow users to purchase products while using avatars.

*The original sample size of the survey consisted of 1,065 respondents. Only those respondents who had not experienced the specific shop type were asked about their interest in using it. The sample sizes for the shop types were as follows:
Mall-type virtual shops: n=994
Event-type virtual shops: n=1,024
Virtual shops with other metaverse services: n=1,034
Virtual shops are defined by the source as services that allow users to visit stores and purchase products using avatars in virtual stores on the internet that utilize 3D scanning/modeling, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), etc.
Mall-type virtual stores are defined as services that allow users to visit multiple stores in a virtual space as an avatar, communicate with staff and other users, and check and purchase products and services using VR, AR, etc. (such as Metapa).
Event-type virtual shops are defined as services that allow users to try on, view, and purchase 3D models and real-world products as an avatar at virtual events held in a virtual space (such as Vket).
Virtual stores with other metaverse services are defined as virtual shop services that allow customers to shop as a user on metaverse services (such as Roblox, cluster, XR Cloud, etc.).
