In 2020, civil servants were the most common employee in France's public hospital workforce. That year, over 70 percent of full-time equivalent employees were civil servants in the French public hospital sector, from which a third were band C (the lower hierarchical and wage level). With 24.4 percent of the French public hospital workforce, Band A workers were the second most common type of employee.
In France, contract workers operate under permanent or fixed-term contracts, whereas civil servants follow a public law regime.
