Over the observed period, the means of payment in Portugal fluctuated slightly in terms of use. The most used means of payment were physical cards, which recorded a decrease in their usage rate from 58.8 percent in 2020 to 52 percent in 2021. Charge to account, transfer, and direct debits ranked second with a usage rate of 20 percent in 2021. Wallets or aggregators were the least used form of payment, not even with one percent usage.
