According to a study performed in Spain in February 2021, anxiolytics were the most prescribed type of drugs for mental health treatment in the European country. As of that date, nearly six out of ten interviewees treated with medication for mental health conditions received anxiolytics, such as lorazepam or clonazepam, while around 41 percent were prescribed antidepressants. The same study found that anxiety and depressive disorders were the most common reasons to consult a mental health professional in Spain.
