In 2023, the total number of doctor visits of all people covered by the resident basic medical insurance program in China amounted to about 2.61 billion. While most Chinese citizens are covered by the resident basic medical insurance program, it offers fewer comprehensive services and a lower rate of reimbursement than the employee basic medical insurance program, which is partially funded by the employers of the insured.
