The NextGenerationEU economic stimulus was agreed upon in 2020 by the institutions and member states of the European Union in order to promote sustainable long-term growth in the wake of the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to receive funds, the member states of the EU were required to submit a national recovery & resilience plan outlining how they would spend the funds across the six key policy areas which were chosen for investment. Each planned investment had to have a primary policy area, that which it primarily deals with, and a secondary policy area.
Greece's national recovery & resilience plan shows that the country will invest its NextGenEU funds primarily across projects which focus on the Green Transition, Digital Transformation, and Social & Territorial Cohesion policy pillars. In terms of secondary objectives of the investments, the Social & Territorial Cohesion pillar makes up the majority.
