In 2023, solar thermal surface additions in the European Union covered approximately 1.8 square kilometers. This was a decrease of roughly 25 percent in comparison to the previous year. Glazed flat plate collectors accounted for the majority of the new installations. Meanwhile, only 6,101 square meters of the new solar thermal surfaces corresponded to unglazed collectors. That year, Germany was the country with the largest solar thermal surface additions across the EU.
