According to a study on podcasting in the United States in 2022, among podcast-related queries, the term that had the highest drop in searches was "serial podcast". The term refers to a podcast production from 2014, which in some ways launched the true crime genre within the podcast market. The search keywords "top podcasts" also so a drop of over 63 percent, which might indicate that either there is less demand for podcasts or that people have found their favorite podcasts and don't need new content.
