In 2023, around 4,257 startups resided in Hong Kong's co-working spaces and accelerators. 68 percent of startup founders who provided information about their origin were Hong Kong locals and six percent were Hong Kong returnees, while 26 percent identified as being non-locals. Among those non-local founders, 21.6 percent were from mainland China, while 16.6 percent came from the United Kingdom and 12 percent from the United States.

The data is based on an online survey conducted by InvestHK with results finalized in September 2023. The survey was conducted in collaboration with a total of 65 operators of co-work spaces, incubators and accelerators.
