The disproportionate use of force and failure to protect the person arrested (which is a post arrest disproportionate use of force) had been held against 59 police officers in the context of 44 investigations in 2021, according to the Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN), the inspection service of the French National Police.
The year with the most investigations for use of force was 2019, a year in which there were many demonstrations related to the yellow vest movement, as well as acts of police violence.
