In the fourth quarter of 2021, the Chinese telecommunications provider China Telecom had almost 5.5 million active mining host IPs. After the government cracked down on cryptocurrency mining and trading in China, many miners left the country or implemented precautions to avoid detection by the authorities. These include joining mining pools, using VPNs, or spreading out the internet traffic of crypto mining over many IP addresses.
