The investigative services of the Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN), the inspection service of the French National Police, were referred to 510 judicial investigations for use of force in 2021, which is 22 fewer than the previous year. Most of these acts of violence took place during arrests.
The year with the most investigations for use of force was 2019, a year in which there were many demonstrations related to the yellow vest movement, as well as acts of police violence.
