Number of investigations for use of force referred to the IGPN in France 2016-2021
In 2021, the investigative services of the Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN), the inspection service of the French National Police, were referred to 510 judicial investigations for use of force. This is 22 fewer than the previous year, and the lowest figure recorded since 2016. The year with the most investigations for use of force was 2019, a year in which there were many demonstrations related to the yellow vest movement, as well as acts of police violence.
