A survey conducted in December 2022 among individuals in the United States provided insight into the prevalence of extreme sports in the United States. The results indicated that a significant portion of respondents had participated in a wide range of activities, with the most popular activity being riding a roller coaster. Overall, 58 percent of respondents indicated that they had tried this activity.

Public opinion on extreme sports in the U.S.

While the adrenaline rush provided by extreme sports does allure some adventure seekers to take on these activities, the thrill is not for everyone. According to a December 2022 survey, more than half of respondents had a negative opinion on extreme sports activities in the United States. The survey results showed that just seven percent of individuals from the U.S. loved such activities, with a further 19 percent expressing they did like them. When asked about what motivated them to participate in extreme sports, almost half of the respondents admitted that they wanted to try new things. Meanwhile, a lack of interest and fear of injury were the most common reasons why people avoided adventure sports.

The demand for snow sports has created a strong industry in the country, with the number of ski and snowboard resorts in the U.S. increasing by four percent between 2021 and 2022. The growing appetite for skiing and snowboarding is reflected in the expanding number of employees at ski and snowboarding resorts, with this figure increasing by 9.5 percent between 2021 and 2022. As of 2021, there were more than 18 million individuals involved in alpine, downhill, freeski, telemark, or cross-country skiing in the North American country.
