In 1884 one woman, Marietta Stow, ran for vice president under the banner of the Equal Rights Party, and was the first women to run for vice president. In 2020, Kamala Harris became the third woman vice presidential nominee, and subsequently became the first female Vice President of the United States. Despite the absence of women candidates for vice president in 2024, Kamala Harris was nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate.
