Savings goals of the German population 2017-2024

In February 2024, retirement provision, consumption purposes and the purchase or renovation of residential property are the dominant savings motives of the German population. Around 57.5 percent put money aside with the savings goal of ‘retirement provision’. The savings motive ‘consumption’ follows with a share of 44.7 percent, closely followed by the savings goal ‘homeownership’ with 43 percent.
