According to a survey on environmental perceptions conducted in early 2022 in New Zealand, the majority of 55 percent of the respondents stated that the main cause of pressure on the marine environment was sewage and stormwater. 48 percent of the respondents claimed that commercial fishing also played a huge part in causing environmental damage.
