In 2020, 469,571 convictions were handed down by French courts. This is the lowest number recorded in two decades. Indeed, the number of convictions has fluctuated since the beginning of the century, but overall has decreased, especially since 2007. In addition, the number of convictions had dropped significantly between 2019 and 2020.
