In 2022, the iron and steel segment reported the second-highest electricity consumption amongst other industrial segments in Spain, having surpassed 900,000 metric tons of oil equivalent. Ranking first was the food, drinks and tobacco segment, which consumed over 990,000 metric tons of oil equivalent worth of electricity in 2022. That year, the electricity consumption of the Spanish industrial sector amounted to a total of 6.1 million metric tons of oil equivalent.
