Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, western countries have provided the Ukrainian army with important aid and equipment to counter Russian forces. Although a significant number of artillery and armored fighting vehicles (AFVs) have already been committed, main battles tanks have proven harder to acquire. Before January 2023, when Germany eventually allowed its Leopard tanks to form part of future deliveries. As of early 2024, Poland has delivered by far the highest number of tanks, with 270 T-72 tanks, and 40 PT-91 tanks delivered.
