A majority in all the 29 countries surveyed agreed with the statement that people should be able to seek refuge in other countries to escape from war or persecution, even in their countries. However, while nearly 90 percent of New Zealanders agreed with the statement, only 55 percent in Singapore and South Korea did the same. In these two countries, there was also a significant share of the respondents who disagreed with the statement.

The question was posed as follows: 'Thinking about your country, do you agree with the following statements:
People should be able to take refuge in other countries, including in (COUNTRY), to escape from war or persecution'.
**18 years and older in India; 18-74 years in Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Turkey, and the United States; 20-74 years in Thailand; 21-74 years in Indonesia and Singapore; 16-74 years in all other countries.
