In 2022, a daily average of around 8.1 million transactions were transmitted to the Zengin System in Japan. The Zengin Data Telecommunication System is an interbank payment clearing network for domestic funds transfers that started operating in 1973. In 2010, the Japanese Banks' Payment Clearing Network (Zengin-Net) was established and took over operations of the Zengin System.
