The majority of supermarkets handling private labels in Japan were expected to pass the price inflation of raw materials to retail prices without changing the content of the products in 2023. While 56.4 percent of businesses intended to maintain the status quo of their products' content by raising prices, close to 44 percent were estimated to maintain the prices by changing the products instead.
