Russia had the largest child population among Eastern European and Central Asian countries, at nearly 30.2 million in 2021. Turkey followed with approximately 23.6 million children aged 0 to 17 years. The lowest number of children in the region was recorded in Montenegro, at around 140 thousand. That represented approximately 23 percent of the country's total population.
