Portugal's production of electricity from bioenergy saw a mostly upward trend between 2000 and 2012, followed by an overall decline until 2018. Since then, figures increased annually and in 2023 bioenergy generation experienced a decrease, accounting for 8.27 percent of electricity generation in Portugal. This was the second-highest value recorded since the turn of the century.
