Display brightness of iPhone models 2022

Over time, the brightness of iPhone displays has quadrupled. The iPhone 5, released in 2012, had a screen display with a maximum brightness of 500 nits. The brightness increased to 625 nits with the iPhone 7 and 1200 nits with the iPhone 11 Pro. The latest iPhone models (2022), the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, have a peak brightness of 2000 nits.

A nit is a unit of measurement that equals one candela per square meter. Therefore, the brightness of an iPhone 14 Pro is roughly around the same brightness as 2000 candles in a square meter.
