Movie fans by generation U.S. 2023

Millenials in the United States are the generation most likely to identify as movie fans, with 41 percent of that cohort identifying as avid movie fans and 42 percent as casual fans - a total of 83 percent. Generation differences are nonetheless of minor significance, when one considers that 79 percent of GenZers and GenZers identify as movie fans, as well as 74 percent of Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers were however less likely to describe themselves as avid fans (25 percent), while more than a third of all other generations described themselves as avid fans.

This statistic is based on a survey conducted online among a sample of 2200 adults, of whom 1071 were men and 1129 women. The data were weighted to approximate a target sample of adults based on age, gender, race, educational attainment, region, gender by age, and race by educational attainment. Results from the original full survey have a margin of error of +/-2 percentage points. Survey respondents were asked; "In general, what kind of fan do you consider yourself of the following? Films"
