The aviation industry is an essential Industry within the tourism sector in Israel. Following the worldwide outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) in March 2020, Israel's airports were shut down many times, and therefore the industry was severely damaged. In 2022, the Israeli government lifted the coronavirus-related restrictions, and the industry began to recover very quickly. In the first quarter of 2022, the revenue from airport services in Israel amounted to 501 million Israeli shekels (roughly 149 million U.S. dollars). This was a slight increase compared to the previous quarter. In addition, in the first half of the same year, the number of passengers that entered or departed Israel by air gradually rose to over 1.73 million in June.
Israeli and American air carriers are popular
Israel's major international airport is Ben Gurion Airport, near Tel Aviv. Airlines from all over the world operate at this airport, although the most popular ones are the Israeli and American airlines. In the first six months of 2022, the number of passengers that entered or departed Israel amounted to over 527,000. The most prominent Israeli airline of all is the national airline, El Al. In these months, American air carriers registered nearly 108,000 passengers n outbound or inbound flights in Israel, a rise compared to the previous quarter.
International tourism to Israel is increasing again
The rapid recovery of the aviation industry contributes to international tourism in Israel following the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis. In 2022, the the number of international tourists entering Israel increased drastically to 2.6 million from 396,500 in the previous year. Most of the tourists who come to Israel from abroad visit the three major cities - Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa. In addition, some of them travel to the famous sites of the Dead Sea, Caesarea, Nazareth, and Masada.
