According to a study published in January 2023, the number of cross-border trips worldwide is expected to rise gradually until 2025, after dropping sharply to under 400 million in the first two years of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Despite the steady annual increase, it was forecast that global cross-border trips will not surpass pre-pandemic levels by 2025, totaling roughly 1.46 billion that year.
