In 2021, Greater China accounted for over 60 percent of the global installed capacity of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems. The second-largest market for the HVDC installed base was the Americas (North, South, and Central America). Both China and the EMEA region (including Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) use HVDC systems to transmit electricity between power generation centers to load centers.
The installed capacity of HVDC systems in Greater China amounted to 252,902 megawatts in 2021.
